First Session with SAM

I had my first session with SAM today. Sam has kindly offered to be my business coach. “Executive Coach” seems just so pretentious and since he is doing it free, inappropriate.

First, a word or two about SAM. I was tempted to post his CV (which would have constituted the other page of this post if seriously abridged to just the most impressive items, but have decided to respect his privacy.

Sam is the most structured thinker that I know. He is able to crystalise the most complex situations into graphic processes which translate into actions which, if you carry them out, will result in the achievement of the stated goals or outcomes.

It’s like magic.

So we plotted out a strategy for me to finalise the process of achieving full employment (full employment being defined as “matching my current salary”. Then we looked at the strategy to achive (full employment) squared.

Once we had plotted out this process we chatted briefly about his next pet projhect and I jumped into the traffic to get to my Sanity Soundboard.

My approach to achieve the goal I’ve set for myself and am sharing in this public domain is holistic.

This means, for me that everything I do will in some or other way bring me closer to the achievement of my target: The places I go and the people I see and speak to, what I speak about, what I listen to, my bathroom routines, the books and articles and mags and newspapers I read, the things I do with my family, how I pray, EVERYTHING takes into account that I am a man at work.

I know that one can achieve anything you want as long as you are prepared to do what it takes and I am prepared to do what it takes-focus and an all-in attitude.

Today I finally received written confirmation of the fact that my contract will, in fact not be renewed come 28 September 2010. I met this confirmation with relief. I had already psyched myself up for being out there for a month or two. This means the game is on!

My manager was more upset about the letter than I was. He had been working hard to retain me.

I sent out an email confirming that the letter had arrived and shortly fielded three calls from my support network at work. The conversations affirmed that the decision had been taken without the decision maker having been made aware of the impact of the decision on the Division.

I also spoke to the logistics senior manager to make him aware of the fact that if he needed my services, we could discuss how to get me back on board on Monday.

I distributed Honey Sale catalogues today and from the orders that I got in by close of business my potential pencilled-in earnings for day one is R630.00.

So…here we go

I have twenty days of a contract job left. I am, therefore about to receive my last pay cheque on Friday 24 September. This blog will record my attempt to match my salary within the 50 days left between today and 31 October when the next flotilla of bills are due… Enjoy the ride with me.
